Ancillary Justice, probably unpopular take, gender, identity
like I get it, she's an AI made under a language that doesn't have gendered pronouns. But like... THEY EXISTS IN ENGLISH ITS A WORD WE HAVE FOR THAT.
Although upside to the book, there's discussion in another language where the protag mentions gendered language. The english text was not gendered. That's cute right there but that's like the only good thing I can say about the book?
Ancillary Justice, probably unpopular take, gender, identity
So I had to put this book down a while ago, and I was vaguely reminded of it today. I... don't exactly get why people were excited about it? Maybe it gets better further in?
The flagrant misgendering by the protag. Who herself is in the body of a brain-wiped slave/prisoner of war?.... It really trips some shitty trans issue feels. And we're supposed to LIKE HER?
#transdayofvisibility Fun Fact: A great way to meet and befriend other trans people in your area is to find common interests, like what all your alternate fursonas look like, or how you're both big fans of Iris Jay's innovative and deeply entertaining comics oeuvre
further Drizzt Protocol
While sure, I'm referencing a fictional character, I feel his existence and acknowledgement helped flow towards more open and interesting interpretations of drow elves, and generally forwarding of breaking gender norms.
Even if sure he's a dumb meme, and I mock him and his two swords, there's some good positive messages to take form this.
Talk of transphobia (funny tho?)
Spawned in a discussion with my partner re: 'if 99% of cis people were transphobes, would you hate that 1% with the rest" I fell that 1% should still be embraced and accepted as being good people, even if the vast swath are not.
I propose we call this phenomena the Drizzt Protocol. Where a singular example of breaking the mold is worthy of mention by name.
Sorry, I've moved accounts D:
