I heard the announcement on the loud-speaker, sighed, and grabbed a broom before rushing to the produce aisle.

"Shoo!" I said firmly, shaking the bristles in what I hoped was the correct direction.

It wasn't.

I squinted, eventually perceiving a shimmer and a faint neigh with the clop of dainty hooves. A carrot levitated and began vanishing in loud crunchy sections.

"No! Hsst!" I chased the unicorn confidently out to the parking lot.

my observation of my own brain is that I have to be able to finish something in two weeks before I lose interest forever. each unfinished project is just an opportunity to learn speedrun strats for next time

there should be no guilt in unfinished projects. you can always go back to finish it later. and even if you never do, it was still good practice for the next project!

Image, humans, eye contact kinda, injury depicted but not graphic.

today, fantasy swashbuckling all the way up the stairs, ha ha! Fantasy means I can do a mix of period stuff. Like maybe the Scottish looking guys are city guards or something.

The vote is open to anyone and there is an obvious correct choice

I love how if you actually follow the entire throughline of the Mega Man series, it's basically a small domino of 'Albert Wily really cannot stand his overly-naive college roommate' and a big domino of 'humanity and synthetic life collapse into one another to a point of fusion so complete it is literally impossible to tell the difference between man and machine to the degree the world forgets the distinction.'

That spike protein we targeted with mRNA vaccines? There had been some minor drift in that area with variants, including the versions of omicron that were showing up late winter, but for the most part if you had some fresh antibodies kicking around, they were pretty suited to the job.

BA.5 is different, and it's becoming the dominant strain. In BA.5, that spike protein has changed dramatically, and your vaccine, and even an infection from late winter or spring with an earlier omicron variant, might do fuck-all for you. It's also seeming to escape at least one treatment option.

Up for air. (purely metaphorical drowning, mh --/+/)

After days of feeling like it's all downhill from here, nothing is worth doing, and the only reason to get out of bed is the soreness from staying in it... it's awfully nice to wake up and feel genuinely good!

...but it's still clear that something is not right. I consistently under-report my depression and anxiety because I've adapted so thoroughly to them. I'm surrounded by this ocean of it. Being held underwater so often normalizes holding one's breath, riding out every second while muttering under my dwindling breath. This is the cycle of it. I've had worse. I'll be back up for air any moment now.

Over the last couple months, there's been less and less air each time. It's looking like the "theta-burst" TMS isn't nearly as effective for me as the older type, so it's back to the full-length visits. It's another boring ten minutes per week, but that's better than another boring six days per week.

Even though I don't expect I'll ever get to land, I'm not about to accept water as the new air.

Urgent need for mental health support information, Marysville WA (Snohomish county)

I have a cousin who has a number of extreme mental illness issues (bipolar + schizophrenia) and her partner of many years has recently passed away after a protracted illness. She is holed up in the house and nobody is able to get in touch with her. She absolutely needs mental health support and housing assistance. Does anyone know of any city or county services which could help her out?
