me: Hey, I'm gonna buck tradition and actually go through the tutorial that came with this software to learn to use it!

software: *throws errors on tutorial, refuses to continue*

me: Welp, guess it's back to the old me. *fucks around*

"Good to have executive function, isn't it?"

"Yeah, I'd do anything to get it."

You know, I really strongly considered learning LaTeX so I could bail on InDesign, but it just might be too crunchy for me. Don't wanna give up before I've started, but I'm starting to feel like I'm merely trading one expensive set of problems for a different sort of expensive.

The hookshot, or as we like to call it...

Today's visually startling LibreOffice bug.

On the left, we have a logo from a OpenType font – using PostScript outlines for accuracy – as it appears in LibreOffice.

On the right, we have the results of an export to PDF. And yes, it's still selectable as if it were plain text, and Acrobat insists the font is embedded with Postscript outlines, so... what the heck?

US student debt relief, soft launch

The US federal government has its form for applying for student loan relief up. It's officially marked as a beta launch, ahead of the form's official launch, but the banner promises that 'if you submit an application, it will be processed, and you won't need to resubmit'.

The form is a model of clarity. You need your Law Papers Name, Social Security Number, birth date, phone number and e-mail address.

LibreOffice Writer has decided that it's totally legit to have the same page style produce different footer margins between left and right pages. No matter what I do, with no actual option to change it.

It's one of those days.

"touch of lime"

"gentle caress of lime"

"unrelenting grasp of lime"

"eternal, all-consuming, unfathomable embrace of lime"

"literally just a lime"

...

"two limes"

You’d figure a company called Yankee Candle would have more New England themed scents. Like “Crisp Autumn Leaves,” or “Low Tide in Innsmouth,” or “The Collected Works of Emily Dickinson.”

A big commercial project that I'm involved in, not sure if it's weird enough

I've been part of a studio that's been working on a transhuman & alternative TTRPG for a while, and they're about to break ground on their crowdfunding.

This is the link:
kickstarter.com/projects/sangu

Our team has been concerned that TTRPGs that delve into neomorphism or transhumanism have one foot firmly planted in the bad side of the Eighties, with bizarre elements such as Cthulhu or "cyber-psychosis" or some other message of bleak hopelessness written by xenophobic edgelords. Our goal with this project is to celebrate transcendence, so that's what we want to present.

If you are someone who is interested in this kind of tabletop role-playing experience, we'd love to hear from you on what you would want a hopepunk/positive experience would be, so we can include that. Games are for people to share, together.

Thank you for your consideration. Enjoy the present while we hope for the future.

On the subject of shows about making shows...

them: "Is it an infinity cube or a picture of an infinity cube?"

me: "It's a photocopy of an infinity cube."

I was today years old when I realized that the millennium anniversary of movable type will occur within my lifetime. I think that's pretty cool!

making a Mr Emoji Head game out of a 🟡 and some spare codepoints, and getting sued into oblivion by Unicode Ltd and Hasbro

Anyway, I recommend grabbing this before Fandom starts changing GameFAQs. I'm not a huge fan of its directory structure but it does provide the bonus of being able to grep every doc for a game at once.

hype! 💰

One of the tabletop games I helped make on is on sale, today only, for about five bucks. It's got a hot werewolf who rips people apart with her bare hands. There's also other stuff that's almost as cool as that.
