trans egg hot take (subtooting a viral comic) (216 words)

(note: "egg", in trans circles, refers to someone not yet conscious of being trans who will look back on their present behavior as indicative of their having already been trans.)

👍🏽: explaining to people that they can be trans when they openly express dissatisfaction with their assigned genders, and allowing them to consider that question on their own time in whatever fashion they would prefer.

👍🏽: discussing the path you took to your present understanding of your gender and events of your past that, in light of that understanding, take on new meaning.

👎🏽: declaring that people who do what you did will turn out to be trans like you.

Reimagining who you are is very stressful. Trans realizations can often be exhilarating, but it's worth remembering that there's a lot of effort that goes into someone changing their self-image in such a substantive way, and trying to drive them towards a specific answer to a question so entangled in their understanding of themself can be /incredibly/ intrusive.

Also, nonbinary people exist? Even people who /do/ turn out to be trans aren't all going to turn out alike.

Give people information and let them reach their epiphanies. Don't try to stuff them into the box of your own.

@packbat (if you're wondering, it's the smallest cube that can be written as the sum of three cubes. 3³ + 4³ + 5³ = 6³ = 216
