@Nine to be fair the snes didn't have sprite scaling and rotation capabilities

that was done with the superFX 2 chip, which was basically a co-processor on the cartridge

@Felthry true but mode 7 did allow for things like Mario Kart which didn't use any enhancement chips, like that perspective background, and the first Super Mario World game used neat tricks like rotating and scaling a background layer instead to give the appearance of sprite scaling and rotation (really cunning. ^^ I love how they used that for the Chrono Trigger title screen too)

@Nine actually mario kart did use an expansion chip, just for different things. not sure exactly what it was used for, wiki claims "more advanced mode 7 capabilities" but i'm not sure what it's referring to precisely

@Nine possibly relatedd to the whole two views thing?

@Felthry oh yeah almost certainly in that case. that must have been particularly taxing.

Follow

@Nine The black bar in the middle of the screen is not just a divider, it's actually basically a second vblank period in effect, where the processor stops drawing the screen to work on computing the second view

@Felthry yaya! I saw a video on that before (I have a feeling you linked it to me?) but I remember watching it and being like "oh DAMN that's SO FRIGGIN COOL! :O :O :O "

@Nine maybe! we have linked people to that video more than once, it's neat stuff

@Nine you should read up on fast inverse square root
