we're at the point of british summer where we are officially into bullshit territory

i can tell because I am absolutely going to have to use, instead of a duvet, an empty duvet cover just so I have SOMETHING covering me so I can comfortably sleep, but also not something so thick that I become an easy bake sknq in my bed.

@Felthry i mean it basically is a sheet at this point, it's just I don't have a single layer sheet to trhrow on my bed, but we do have a plethora of spare duvet covers

@Nine Is that common in the UK? In the US, you generally have a sheet and a blanket and a duvet (if you mean what we think you mean by that, which is called a comforter over here) is an optional extra--you have either one of those or a quilt

@Felthry uh...

shit let me just quickly look up terms here because quilt and duvet are interchangable terms here I think?

there's always a base sheet, like a fitted sheet, or a flat sheet, that fits over the mattress, pillow cases, and then you have your duvet/quilt over the top of that which is inside a cover thing.

Sheets that go under/above the duvet are rare? I mean they do happen but they're usually pretty rare, as is a blanket on top (usually we just get a thicker duvet)

@Nine Here it's mattress/fitted-sheet/plain-sheet/blanket/quilt. the quilt is always the top thing

and over here, a quilt is one that doesn't have a covering, and a comforter does, which is why I said comforter when you mentioned a duvet cover

@Felthry yeah, I think Duvet and Comforter are the same thing, that's where the confusion of. thanks! ^^

@Nine A quilt is generally about as substantial as a duvet/comforter cover, so it's nto a huge pain to wash or anything. Comforters are not often used here because it rarely gets cold enough.
