I have a very bad back today but I also want to do some soldering. Specifically I want to do some desoldering under the lens of a very good camera which can zoom in very tight but very clearly, and I want to talk gently and reassuringly and in a very clear and detailed way about how to desolder components because people tend to struggle more with getting the old part off than they do with getting the new part on.

Maybe in a couple weeks when things calm down a bit.

Even more specifically I'd like to pay attention to the wielder of the iron, in a sort of New Masculinity way, letting the audience know that the iron's just a tool and the skill comes from their hands and eyes and body and mind so their soldering station should be a calm and cheerful place where they feel safe and confident, they should be well-hydrated, not worrying about the world outside the iron and the joint.

Because youtubers don't talk about any of that, and just say to clean the tip.

When a video shows how to discharge a monitor or how to do other high-voltage stuff, they always forget that sweating makes you much more conductive and therefore likely to be shocked, and frightened people sweat. It'd be good if videos like this suggested some ways to not feel frightened, because the first few times you do it, discharging a monitor is scary!

In general I think that, since electronics work can be stressful especially for those who aren't familiar with it, and since so much depends on very fine work that needs a very steady hand, there needs to be a much greater focus on the health and wellbeing of the person doing the work. How-to videos should talk about breathing and posture and hydration and work environment, and how to steady your hands before you even pick up the iron. Us blokes need to be better about this.

Things that will make a bad solder joint:
* Dirty tip
* Dirty joint
* Not enough flux
* Unleaded solder
* Not enough heat, or heat removed too soon
* Heat applied in the wrong place
* Parts move during freezing
* Using solder as a mechanical joint

Things that men don't talk about, which will just as surely cause a bad joint:
* Feeling tired
* Feeling upset about something
* Feeling in pain
* Feeling distracted
* Feeling unable to concentrate
* Feeling unsure of yourself
* Feeling rushed

@ifixcoinops this is a good thing, being unable to focus on the task at hand is just, something that makes one do any task less effectively
