I am surprised with how well I am taking to playing on the keyboard. I thought it would be a steeper uphill struggle to even play anything. <3
Getting this MIDI keyboard was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

@FreyaManibrandr I'm glad you're finally getting to fulfill that (late-) childhood dream, then <3
re: MH ~, Bittersweet memories
@Felthry Thank you! I also got my hands on an electric bass a few months ago, but while I love it, I can't practice that as much as I do the keyboard, due to fret hand pain, hopefully that will change.
re: MH ~, Bittersweet memories
@FreyaManibrandr We got a keyboard ourselves several months ago and have had a lot less success with it... I feel like we're better with string instruments, keyboards feel too unintuitive.
re: MH ~, Bittersweet memories
@FreyaManibrandr What kind of keyboard did you get? Ours is the cheapest one we could find that actually had velocity detection, a casio ctk-3500
re: MH ~, Bittersweet memories
@Felthry Arturia Keylab Essentials 49, I figured I'd get something that will last a while.
re: MH ~, Bittersweet memories
@FreyaManibrandr ooh, that one's just a midi controller? Looks like it would have been a good option for us to get though, that's way cheaper than ours was
we didn't think of just getting a midi controller, we went for a self-contained instrument (though this also can be used as a midi controller)
re: MH ~, Bittersweet memories
@Felthry Yeah, considering that I have a massive collection of soft synths, and VSTis, I don't feel like I have a real need for a synth keyboard.
The ones I would have wanted would be way out of my budget anyways.
re: MH ~, Bittersweet memories
@Felthry I mean, good luck finding a Roland Jupiter-8 at an affordable price.
The Roland XP-80 is more affordable but still very pricey.
re: MH ~, Bittersweet memories
@FreyaManibrandr yeah we don't know a ton about this stuff but we know roland is expensive (and high quality, yeah, but expensive)
re: MH ~, Bittersweet memories
@Felthry I do happen to own a Roland SD-50 and the Roland SCVA VSTi, the SD-50 was not cheap, but it's so worth every penny.
The SCVA is a nice emulation of the Roland SC-8820 so that makes me happy.

This just reminds me of back when I was in my late teens, how I wanted to get a keyboard for making music with and to learn an instrument, and I was flat out shut down and yelled at by my late mother for even asking.
Being able to just practice and play on the keyboard means a lot to me than I thought it would. ;w;
