imo it's always good to remember that the idea that "trans" is a different category than "gay", and the related idea sexuality is neatly separable from gender, is such a new idea that there are people alive today who grew up with the idea that "homosexual" is a third gender category that encompasses every transgressive sex/gender identity

like this is part of why "drop the T" movements and TERFism are so misguided: for the longest time, these movements were not just intertwined, they were the exact same thing. The mitosis that lead to them splitting wasn't a "scientific" advancement that gender and sexuality were different: it was a political innovation that recognized the different needs of different subgroups of "homosexuals", and therefore the need to organize politically with different, yet related, demands

So apparently there are a bunch of Spanish-speaking TERFs showing up on mastodon.social.

Perhaps... perhaps it is time to consider silencing mastodon.social?

I'm not gonna do it yet but I'm certainly gonna try to keep an eye on #mastoadmin to see how this shakes out.

In the not-so distance past of intense gatekeeping, only very binary people had access to medical transition. Of course there were people who were not binary, but that had not emerged as a distinct identity - people instead were part of the L/g(b) community, which, so you had butches and queens. The obvious drawbacks of this were that people were identified with what they were coercively assigned at birth and it excluded people who couldn't be mapped onto being gay - ...

now done with #magfest2020 - what an absolutely magnificent experience. i participated in a one-hour music battle, tried the bally astrocade, bought a dreamcast, and played lots of neon fm and pinball

also i hung out in the demoparty a lot! what a cool part of the con. i definitely wanna submit to the compo next year

also!!! the con was crackling with queer energy, from decorations to attendees to staff to panelists and panel topics, and i fuckin loved it

i can't wait to go back!!
