The OSI’s response to RMS’s reappointment to the Board of the Free Software Foundation is also very clear: opensource.org/OSI_Response

RMS

If anything this shows just how deep the rot goes in the tech industry where even folks who claim to build an open freer platform for developing software for all is welcoming of oppressive individuals.

Stallman had the right idea when it comes to the danger of proprietary software threatening the open market, however he never predicted the proclivity for well-off cishet white men to lust for and crave power and control over people and things, as well as their tendency to colonize, gatekeep and gentrify spaces meant for all people.

....and that's because Richard Stallman is himself a cishet white man, and on top of that, a rape apologist.

What is RMS and why isn't the discourse about it about the root mean square of a sonic waveform's energy.

Riots in #Bristol, #UK, against a new law that would make parts of the Corona's regulations on gatherings and demonstrations permanent. Cop precinct under siege right now. #killthebill #CoronaRiots #antireport

Please don't move to Hawaii in the PANDEMIC, displacing even more Native Hawaiians like myself, unable to afford 950k+ housing on starvation wages, living on the street, or forced to move away. Don't be a colonizer.

Here is a contemporary painting of a 1779 fencing match between the Chevalier de Saint-George (a celebrity virtuoso violinist whose mother was an Afro-Caribbean slave) and the Chevalier d'Eon (A former spy and notable transwoman).

When you publicly enforce your boundaries, you:

- let others know what they are, in case they were unaware or unclear
- let yourself know you're capable of enforcing your boundaries
- let others who may want to enforce their boundaries but be unwilling to know what's possible
- expose & alienate people who won't respect your boundaries (& potentially others' as well)
- help normalize creating & respecting interpersonal boundaries within a social space

This is why hope is the radical choice, because through hope we choose to look beyond our current self-destructive reality and to dream other possibilities into being. Whiteness is not and never has been the only way to exist, not even for people currently (de)racialized as white. We will and we must move beyond the fantasy of a flat white world that has become a nightmare. We owe it to each other and to the world to dream and live beyond whiteness. We have to hope.

CPU history, erasure of women

"Sasaki attributes the basic invention to break the calculator chipset into four parts with ROM (4001), RAM (4002), shift registers (4003) and CPU (4004) to an unnamed woman, a software engineering researcher from Nara Women's College, who was present at the meeting. Sasaki then had his first meeting with Robert Noyce from Intel in 1968, and presented the woman's four-division chipset concept to Intel and Busicom."

Not even sidelined, just "unnamed".

Hormones, medical, trans

I ended up worrying a bunch last night about breast cancer and blood clot risks from hrt and ended up reading a bunch about it and it... turns out the risk is miniscule? Cancer risk is still lower than for cis women. Blood clot risk was previously overestimated because they used an estrogen meant for birth control that *does* increase the risk a lot, but estradiol doesn't really have much of an effect on that?

Anyway that was a huge relief and I thought I'd share. It turns out people *have* been doing more up to date science on trans folks, which was sorely needed.

If the police are telling you how to protest, it’s a pretty safe bet you should do exactly the opposite if you want to be effective.

So can everyone please stop repeating the “outside agitator” and “anarchist hijacker” tropes.
