So the high concept of this seems straightforward. It's a movie about dogs that don't understand human language, so the humans speak in a language that the English-speaking audience probably doesn't understand.

I've got to say something about the Far Cry series, since they've been kind of a fascination of mine. Listing this under Far Cry 4 since it's the one I can come closest to recommending because it's got great scenery and /less/ uncomfortable stuff than FC3 or FC5.

Far Cry markets itself as "the outdoor shooter"; a series of violent vacations across the globe with a gruff masculinity driving it. Its structure is akin to an MMO-lite--pick an objective from your world map, travel there (perhaps with a random event or two along the way), do the activity, collect money to put towards upgrades, repeat. It's a gun-loving carnivore's dream come true... which isn't who I am at all. The trouble is that it has some real fun! I love scouting outposts, tagging targets, and trying to sneakily take out guards with a bow and arrow. You can see how the series became such an influence over games like Metal Gear Solid V and Horizon Zero Dawn. It's just impossible to recommend because it's not an especially compact or varied experience and I'm way less charmed by its thin cynical plot, the constant gunfire echoing through the hills, and the explicit task of killing and skinning near-endangered animals.

You spend this whole game turning a war-torn monarchy into either:

* an authoritarian drug state powered by child soldiers and slavery, or
* a fundamentalist theocracy where people who don't carry the faith are rounded up and executed

After that you have the option of accepting that or killing the new leader to become the country's accent-less American autocrat.

Far Cry is a series in a world where good things aren't possible

I'm happy(?) to report that despite literally finishing the entire series I'm still in the Eva rabbit hole. Apparently I had literally heard some of the series background music in Shin Godzilla! And that song is also modeled after a 007 piece!

I can't believe this game is asking me to hunt and skin a nearly-endangered rhinoceros in order to literally make my wallet bigger

It feels a little silly to say my problem is "getting owned by ghosts" but that's what happens.

Also, in the game

I'm having a slightly exasperated experience with AoW3 multiplayer today? I dunno. How do people even judge complex games

anyway this problems of:
* I want to play as goblins
* I want goblins to be stronger
* Goblins are absolutely ruined by the invisible ghosts that wander around the world
* also I wish I could ping a map position to a teammate
* also, you're required to watch tactical combat that you aren't even participating in

Still not sure what the great multiplayer 4X experiences are, but I suppose there's a reason Civ is king?

Ubisoft has released 20 open-world action games in the past 5 years and maybe 2 or 3 of them are good. I think one of the most difficult things to do is find the high points in a really saturated game format
