The Asian Art Museum turns out to be smaller than I thought, I imagined an immense collection of Shang bronze work which isn’t the case. I was done in 2 hours and that’s with sketching. They have an unusually nice collection of Heian/Nara stuff, here’s some of what I liked. Includes some very early Japanese art; you don’t see that much!
Last here’s some #drawings - you can’t take pens in the galleries but luckily a docent lent me a golf pencil!
religious motifs
Here’s more stuff which struck me as special. Unlike the other art in Asian collections, I tend to “feel” the Persian stuff is “my people.” Maybe they were.
Anyway I liked the rabbit motifs on this heavy Edo period fireman’s coat, shoutout to @porsupah and @Momentrabbit
