I'm still curious as to people with visual impairments using Mastodon & what issues they've encountered.

Alt Texting images is good, but.. Can people access the service at all to even get to said images? The only experiences I've heard have been "Tried a few times, design was not accessible, gave up", but twas a while ago + 2nd hand.

Idk if emphasis on alt-text 'Making Masto VI Accessible' just amts to Accessibility Theatre.. I'd like to hear experiences? #disability

(I know that alt-text can be useful for other purposes, and I'm not arguing against it by saying that.

My concern is the.. "Hey yr not using alt-text!! Inaccessible!!" stuff going round.. Feels like point scoring. Last I heard ppl couldn't access Masto at all.

We 100% should have alt-text as a baseline in the community. Just.. Are there still deeper problems we're not addressing, that prevent ppl accessing the service as a whole?

I don't have the experience to know.

@NeonYeen v important imo and I’d been kinda wondering this tbh?

Pal on twitter quote tweeted a thing where it showed a ‘bad’ wheelchair ramp with a step below it. Then a ‘good’ wheelchair ramp which was very asthetic and built into the buildings stairs.
And how the latter one was better.

Except my freind pointed out that the ‘good’ ramp had no railings and was designed for abled people’s enjoyment over it being helpful.

So yknow, hope it ain’t the same here :0
