The best Joker Story and frankly as far as I care, only "canon" one is the BatmanTAS episode where joker terrorizes a normal person for the rest of his life saying he needs "a favor" just because of a minor scuffle to prove anyone can end up like him... Only for the man to totally snap at him years later, stop him, perfectly explain how the Joker works. He not only makes him cry and freak out but ends up being one of the few random citizens Batman respects on his level.
It's up there with a minor plot point in Batman Beyond where because Terry (New Batman) isn't Bruce Wayne, he doesn't operate on the same sort of "scripted" relationship Joker and Batman had, this makes him totally unknowable to Joker and the charade falls apart
