It seems we're doing an awoo this evening! That takes us back.

Awoo!

Fun fact:

English has three sets of words that communicate "this place" : "that place" : "what place". Each meaning can be paired with one of three prepositions ("in", "to", and "from") to form a specialized locative word:

"in" - here : there : where
"to" - hither : thither : whither
"from" - hence : thence : whence

So "here" means "in this place"; "thither" means "to that place"; "whence" means "from what place"; etc.

@noiob Oh good. We're not feeling up to watching right now but hopefully this one doesn't get taken down overnight.

re: super mario take

@monorail I want to try to think of other cases of this, but I can't think of many other series that span 2D and 3D both, with distinct styles for both.

Metroid, maybe, but it doesn't have any entries that we're aware of that blur the line. Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Suikoden, and a number of other RPG series have 2D and 3D entries, but they don't have much if any playstyle difference between them.

re: super mario take

@monorail I was thinking about this, and it occurred to me that Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, and A Link Between Worlds are basically the same thing for the Zelda series.

I'm not exaggerating either, it really is just those two words.

Apparently, one of youtube's recommendations for fixing streaming problems related to intermittent internet outages is... "use chrome".

@noiob This is the problem with automated content moderation.

@noiob Also, after that, it said "Learn more about combating hate speech in your country", but it wasn't a link, which is... odd.

@noiob Well, I wanted to see it, but "this video has been removed for violating youtube's policies on hate speech"

A lesson being taught doesn't necessarily go along with that lesson being learned.

Likewise, lessons can sometimes be learned long after they're taught.

In Pokemon Colosseum, the first trainer you fight has a zigzagoon. Its animation lines up perfectly with the trainer's model such that, when you hit it and it recoils backwards, when it runs back to position it runs between its trainer's legs. It's extremely cute.

:ziggy:

@Lioness I thought of skiddo and shaymin, too, both of which are ambiguously either grass or shrubs.

How many grass-type pokemon are actually based on grass, as opposed to some other plant? Are there any?

I hope everyone on here is having a pleasant evening. The world is overwhelming sometimes, so please remember to take some time to yourself, to do things you enjoy.

@LaserScheme And the little-known successor, the Apple slash-slash-slash.

Who came up with the trainer names in Pokemon XD, anyway? They're very odd.

@lizardsquid Oh, I'm sure Skywind is going to take a while. I just hope it doesn't get abandoned, and actually does get finished sometime.

Morroblivion seems like it would be an easier engine update, since the game mechanics are much more similar between those two, but they seem to have shifted focus to Skywind exclusively for now.

@lizardsquid We should install it then! Morrowind is one of the best games we've ever played and it'd be nice to play again on an improved engine.

I wonder if Skywind will ever be finished.
