Supertitles are exactly that. The first time I heard the word used was for the translation of opera lyrics on a screen above the stage.
I was seven. The Opera was Carmen, and one of my second grade friends was in the children's chorus in the first act.
Unfortunately, I think in TV and video games they're called subtitles regardless of where they appear on the screen.
