I hate it when people still believe the "phone in rice" thing, rice is not a desiccant, just let it dry for as long as possible or use sth like silica gel
@noiob i feel like people who actually do the phone in rice thing haven't actually... thought about what happens when rice grains get even the slightest bit wet.
like
have they even just tried getting like a bucket full of rice and dropping a little bit of water in it just to see what happens??
@noiob the answer is the rice stays dry and doesn't soak up much water, and you just end up with hard uncooked grains of rice that are now wet and sticking to things because of the water's surface tension.
@Nine @noiob i remember Alton Brown talking about this because people would put rice in their salt shaker "because the rice would draw out moisture and keep the salt from sticking"
and he was like "if that were true then you could cook rice just by setting it outside in a rainforest" and recommended using popcorn kernels instead—because what *actually* stops the salt from sticking is just having large foreign objects bouncing around in there
the only thing that's good about putting your phone in rice is that you'll leave it alone and not try to power it on while it's still wet
