Gender pronoun stuff (-)

Watching someone review Knight Rider and it makes me uncomfortable every time they call KITT or KARR an "it".

To be fair, certain characters on the show at certain times do the same, but even then it feels like the framing points to them being wrong...? Like Michael insisting that KITT isn't a "he" but an "it" when they first met and hadn't gotten to know each other yet.

Gender pronoun stuff (-)

But the reviewer's reasoning was also like, "Just because KITT was given a male sounding voice doesn't mean anything." Okay but "it" shouldn't be what you default to when someone isn't masculine or feminine my friend.

Complicated further by the fact that KITT is an AI, so this also feels like a question of #DroidRights

Gender pronoun stuff (-)

Hearing a character referred to as "it" just makes me squirm. Unless that's the pronoun they chose themselves, of course.

Gender pronoun stuff (-)

I know some people who do use the pronoun "it" and I don't want to make them feel invalid with this...

Complicated. :blobsweats:

@Lexi there's a big difference between using 'it' as default and using 'it' because someone told you it's its pronoun
