did you know that some amount of PS3 Slim has some LEDs on the board for the power/ eject switch board that afaik are never used, and not connected to anything (there's power, but you still have to ground the other end to get them to light up)

also the PS3 Slim itself thing is so nice on the inside, really well planned out and built

If I had to guess I'd say that they were planning on making it light up the whole area below the drive bay but decided against it? I kinda wanna wire them up to light up with the power light but I'm not sure if it's too tacky

@noiob Pretty! Reminds me of the Wii's own drive LED which was roughly on all the time due to WiiConnect24's messages or updates.

@Ronflaix I don't think we ever had Wiiconnect24 on

@noiob So you didn't live the blue LED stripe turning on randomly around the drive and slowly pulsating? It was both soothing and irritating when trying to sleep.

@noiob How easy is it to take apart? I just opened up a launch-model PS3 I got a few months ago, in order to reapply thermal paste (under the GPU lid as well as under the heat sinks) and clean ancient dust. Unscrewing everything is fairly straightforward, there's just...a lot of stuff, so it's pretty tedious. The motherboard itself has a metal enclosure on both sides, and the CPU/GPU/etc. are on the underside, with the heatsink/fan resting between that and the bottom of the case. Not only that, but the heatsink is tightened from the opposite side, so if you're like me and your GPU lid is no longer glued to the board, you have to be really careful and avoid it sliding off before you can flip the board and tighten it up 😅

@Skirmisher it's a good bit simpler I think? I didn't get all the way to the board though, it was pretty dang clean so I didn't wanna go through the whole hassle to repaste it

@tom @noiob reminds me of the Moto G line, I don't know if it's still the case but they all have or had a white notification LED that was completely unused in the default stock ROM

(or the home button LED on the switch that was useless until Ring Fit Adventure came out)

@tom nothing, they're probably left over from something they decided against but it was easier to just order the boards with them on

@noiob does it just light up the corner of the drive when it's connected to ground?

@tom yeah, I soldered a wire to it and stuck it to some metal part to test it

@MochiWaifu I don't have a PS4 so I'm not sure, and it only lights up the corner right now, I feel like there's some parts missing that would've guided the light all the way across? and also it's missing some electrical connections, I had to solder a wire to it

@noiob It looks cool one way or the other :D
But yeah like, the PS4 has this one strip of light, and this looks like it. Although the PS4 one reacts to standby, on etc

@MochiWaifu this one could react to stuff, I just have to find the right parts, the people who posted about it usually had blue hooked up to the standby LED and red to the optical drive LED

@noiob on second thought that seems like a weird lack of initiative. Maybe they liked the idea of it being less lighty-uppy.

@Mainebot yeah, the buttons already light up pretty brightly, I can see why they'd not have any more
