Digital Foundry reviews the PS Digital which adds a fully digital HDMI output to the PSX. I'm so happy about how much love the PSX is getting lately

@noiob my dream would be this coming to the PS2

...and an ODE, but maybe I’m being greedy

@ticky there's a PSX ODE very close to release and it's awesome castlemaniagames.com/products/

it's probably way harder to get digital video out of a PS2 so I wouldn't hold my breath there

@noiob yeah, an the PS2 is just so close to having perfect analogue video already, meanwhile an ODE would do so much for it, improving compatibility and allowing non-CD use of the hardware PS1 back compat, which would rule

@ticky I guess? Open PS2 Loader has pretty high compatibility already and I like to use an actual PS1 for PS1 games? technically it's partial emulation anyways… and also the PS1 emulates extremely well

@noiob @ticky can OPL load ps1 games? i recall you could load them from the ps2 HDD expansion thingy with some extra fiddling

@pup_hime @noiob it can be loaded in a pirated copy of Sony’s emulator, but it has graphical errors and poor compatibility, and cannot use real memory cards

@pup_hime @noiob in fairness to it it was released for *one* downloadable PS1 game so broad compatibility was never its remit

@pup_hime @ticky the problem is that the I/O chip on the PS2 is the one that's used as a CPU in PS1 mode, so you can either have a hard drive or PS1 hardware

@noiob @pup_hime yep! Honestly if Sony had thought of the use case earlier I feel like they’d have made it possible, alas

@ticky @pup_hime you can load games from USB but it's 1.1 so it's slower than CDs, and cutscenes stutter badly

@noiob the late model PS2s are partial emulation, the earlier ones are not
