when the REO Motor Car Company first unveiled the Speed Wagon motor truck in 1915, they could never have foreseen their legacy: inspiring the name of a classic rock band that itself inspired the name of a character in a Japanese comic franchise about extremely strong men with magic powers
@typhlosion Okay I need to hear the full story of this
@Felthry the classic rock band R.E.O. Speedwagon named themselves after the truck (the Speed Wagon, made by REO Motor Company)
later, the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure franchise, fueled by its creator Araki's love of western rock music, had a character named R.E.O. Speedwagon
@typhlosion @Felthry Fun fact that's not, in fact, fun [*], coming from Lansing, the Olds/R E Olds company's home: the company pronounced and advertised its name as Reo, sounding like what you say before "Grande" or "De Janeiro". Saying it R-E-O is because the bandmembers saw the truck name and thought it looked cool but never heard it said aloud.
[*] I am very bad at judging whether a fact is fun.
@typhlosion Who in turn would go on to found a fictional multinational conglomerate, begging the question of whether or not The REO Motor Car Company exists in the broader universe of Hirohiko Araki's magnum opus.
