re: rant
For reference, in typical california fashion.. our mailbox is not at the street but literally next to our front door, bolted to the wall.
rant
Fuck me.. for the second time in.. 5 years someone has stolen my fucking ADHD meds out of my mailbox. (First time was at a different address)
The thing is.. like.. I'm on off label modafinil and kaiser ships it in a very generic bag. The worst part is.. it was dropped off at 4:30, mail was checked at 5pm.
Annnnd "totally not in a covid wave" but there is a 2 hour wait time to talk to a pharmacy rep in the middle of the day on a Wed... fucking hell.
Like.. I vaguely feel shitty about this but.. seriously... DO NOT FUCKING STEAL MEDS FROM PEOPLE'S DOORS, MAILBOXES AND SHIT!
You aren't stealing from a big corp. You are causing a bunch of fucking trouble for someone and honestly.. dealing with shit like this.. is hard. It gives me a bunch of anxiety.. because I'm a fucking mess without my meds.
I don't like.. want to through shade at the post office.. but it feels really suspect that my meds disappeared the day my med was shipped and in a very short time between delivery and checking. Also none of the other mail or packages that arrived at the same time went missing.. including razors.
@mawr Fair! It just.. really strange for the bay area xD
@mawr Even with central AC... it's undersized for the volume of our current place.. and well.. there is literally no insulation. You can touch exterior face walls and they will be hot to the touch on days like today.... we couldn't keep it below ~27 in the living spaces..
I am very much looking forward to living somewhere cooler.
Also last week we had hot muggy rain.. like wtf.
@mawr Agreed... it is still ~26C outside.. after 11pm :(
@mawr But mawr... it is gonna be 40C today.. down here.
The demon looked around. There was a summoning sigil drawn in the ruddy sand, but nobody... It shifted its perception to the spiritual plane. Ah. A dust devil.
"Why hast thou-"
"A battery."
"A battery?" The demon looked around. "What need for a battery on Mars?"
"For our friend."

"So this is it? The Token of Power?"
"Yes. Whoever holds it has the Ultimate Power in the kingdom."
"No wonder wars have been fought over it. Stand aside."
She hefted her war axe.
"What are you-"
The Token shattered under her blow.
"Give everyone a piece."
"Everyone?"
"Everyone."

HELL YEAH
"Fear not, fair maiden," the knight said, "I shall free you."
"Go away," said the woman, "I'm bait."
"What?"
"This is the dragon's clever plan to meet you."
"Meet me?"
"Yes, he saw you fight someone and was smitten."
"He did? I mean, he was?"
"Go!"
"This dragon, is he handsome?"

It looked like just another quest notice.
DEFEAT DRAGON
WIN PERMISSION TO WOO DAUGHTER
"There's a princess?" one knight said.
"No," said another, "it's not from the king."
"Then who?"
"The dragon's daughter."
"Hmm..."
"Really?"
"She shouldn't need permission."
"Fine. Let's go."

I was out walking, lost in thought, and paid little attention to where I was going. Imagine my surprise when I found myself in the Library of Unwritten Books.
I wasn't allowed to read any of my own unwritten books, but I read one of yours.
It was really good. You should write it.

re: Unpopular US Political Opinion
@mawr I still maintain that people who advocate for totally disarmament come from a place of extreme privilege that they are not aware of or feel they will benefit directly from the disarmament of the general populous.
Both groups in power have pushed extreme amounts of propaganda into the public eye.
Anecdotally I'll point out politicians like Leeland Yee. A California state senator who was perhaps one of the most virulent and egregious anti-gunners in the state for decades.. and is now sitting in a federal prison after getting nailed in a RICO case involving... gun running and not just civilian sporting weapons to but rather selling machine guns and rpgs to right wing extremist organizations, known terrorist groups and the Triads.
The more naive group pushing for disarmament are perhaps heavily biased by American Exceptionalism and seem to think we somehow have a semi-functional justice system in the US or honestly seem completely unaware or willingly unaware how much our governments fail our citizenry by design.
Ultimately the real heart of the issue is that is easier to talk about banning firearms than it is to talk about solving all of the issues that lead to violence in the first place and the people in power benefit far more from taking one of these actions rather than the massive revolutionary effort it would take to build a better future for everyone.
Unpopular US Political Opinion
"The war on guns" will be twice as expensive and every bit as effective as "the war on drugs" has been.
What we need is a political party that gives a shit about the future, so people feel like there's something worth working toward.
What we have right now is a brewing cold civil war with one side who's been stockpiling weapons and ammo for decades, and the other who wants their side to DISARM.
And who is it that takes the weapons away?
ACAB. Don't fall for it.
re: US Politics
I had my mind fucking blown in a bad way a couple of days ago after a roomie asked for some canned soup for quick meals and fucking progresso soups are $5 a can now at our local safeway.
Tina's frozen burritos? Up to 75 cents each from 25.
re: US Politics
Shit has not changed since Obama's first year in office. Tipped federal minimum wage is still $2.15/h.
What the actual fuck.
Then again my household can't afford to buy a house anywhere we could safely live and work with two six figure incomes D:
Price increases are crazy bad here on food stuffs. Average cost of my household grocery orders which account for cooking 4-5 meals for 4 people with leftovers to cover at least 1 meal the following day each are up 40% in the last six months.
Any semblance of sanity if you try to eat out here even like... fast casual or formerly cheap things like.. Lee's are.. basically $10-15 USD for a meal.
Thankfully working from home makes cooking more viable but I'm literally cooking like my parents did when we were broke as a child. Buy meat only when it is on sale, cook large pot meals (jambalaya, creole, soups, curry) with lots of rice or tri tip when it is on sale and shred it for sandwiches over the next couple of days.
A spaceship landed, and an alien emerged.
"We have heard of the wonders of Earth," the alien said, "so have come to experience..."
They began reading off a list.
"Chocolate. Chilis. Coffee. Cats. Cinnamon. Cloudberries."
"We have things that start with other letters too."
"What?"
