In The Last Federation, you play as one of two heads of the last living Hydra who's stolen a mercenary flagship and has taken on the task of balancing power between a number of alien species to keep them from annihilating each other.
You do this through diplomacy menus and ??? turn-based shmup combat.
Is anyone here a fan of Arcen Games? AI War and such?
I find myself drawn towards their games despite not falling in love with any. I don't get along with their adoration of cluttered fields of sprites and six digit numbers (plus these games are hell ugly and sound poor) but I like the weird story concepts and appreciate that they never do things the obvious way.
I'm also dealing with the most ridic player character I can think of in Inverse World's Sky Dancer.
She can fly at-will, naturally, but also has this move which lets her ask (without rolling the dice!) "is there a trap or ambush here?"
I will try to be a little positive and think of some things I did well tonight, though:
* The pacing was reasonably good. I felt like players were engaged most of the time; we managed to do a couple fight kinds of scenes
* I utilized prep to set up and resolve a little plot about a side character that was introduced as a joke
* I didn't describe things using numbers
* I avoided making NPC interactions feel too transcational
I need to get better at small-picture stuff, like describing individual spaces, actions, and items. My headspace is too closed in around making cool characters and schemes.
Plus pushing dangers in a narrative sense more than a mechanical sense, that's tough.

re: Bioshock Infinite
I hope I’m not alone in thinking of it as feeling totally separate from the other Bioshock experiences. (and hey, Infinite would have been a great walking simulator...)
Bioshock Infinite
I started thinking about this game again and it makes me so angry. You could fairly critique it as an immaculately constructed game where every detail fits together to tell one Bad story. I just don’t like it as sci-fi.
But maaaan, the racism-as-worldbuilding, the endless combat, and the way excessive gore make me never wanna give it another shot.
https://www.twitch.tv/commachameleon I'm playing Jak 3 and fighting off pizza hypnosis
