“Rachel you’re from the US why do you say ‘rubbish’”
Because there’s no one word in American English that conveys garbage/trash + recycling + compost other than perhaps “waste” and that just sounds wrong.
Various states on the state diagram of living in an apartment:
* There is too much rubbish. This is going to take me months to take out without completely monopolizing the bins.
* Okay I finally got my act together enough to take out some rubbish, just this week’s priority rubbish…oh the bins are full.
* Oh the bins are mysteriously empty. Did they collect a day early? How much can I put in without being rude?
* I just needed 3 things shipped to me. Why is my apartment full of cardboard again?

Over the past few years I've written much of a #Fediverse system called kepi, in Python. I have largely abandoned the project because nobody expressed interested in helping, and because I don't have the expertise to write the web UI.
But it seems like a good moment to list the three major parts that are done. I would love it if any of them were spun off into separate projects. I can help; I just can't do all of it.

sometimes I think about how nice it would be to use a text-based social media client, and about my great nostalgia for Usenet, but then I remember that I explicitly only use social media from my phone so that when I’m on a laptop I can be in focus mode and actually get things done
