FULL VERSIONS OF GUILTY GEAR STRIVE THEMES ARE OUT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL
Experience w/ General Assembly Bootcamp Admissions / Vent; Transphobic micro-aggression
Me: Gets unsolicited call from admissions
Me: Looks up GA and decides to give them a shot; Schedules interview later that day
Them: Does not call until more than 12 hours after scheduled time, when I'm busy.
Me: Decides to try and officially apply, hoping that it will smooth the process out
Them: Calls again during lunch
Me: Attempts to nail down a time in which both parties are ready to properly communicate
Them: Accepts the time
Me: At the accepted time, notes that they're almost half an hour late
Them: Calls, notes a "discrepancy" from my deep voice and feminine name, nearly hangs up
Me: Confirms my identity before they get a chance, is routed to the actual Admissions Officer
Them: "Sorry, I'm not available right now, can we schedule for next week?"
Me: "Okay" 🙃
FGC Gripe
Gotta vent/gripe about people on twitter complaining about 'rollback heads': The issue is that we want good netcode, and the only known implementation of good netcode was rollback, so that's what was asked for. It's not about blindly asking for rollback, it's that it was literally the only option for consistency.
re: Virtua Fighter Esports/Ultimate Showdown First Impressions
Like... I'm kind of shocked this release is going as well as it is so far, considering the lack of communication regarding netplay. Was seriously thinking this game was only going to succeed because of the PS+ promotion on launch, but now I think it can have some serious legs, and might be the catalyst for a VF6
re: Virtua Fighter Esports/Ultimate Showdown First Impressions
There are anecdotes of folks playing from the US East Coast to the US West Coast with no problems! While we know nothing about how this new title handles their netcode, it's looking like it's better than a lot of non-rollback titles!
Virtua Fighter Esports/Ultimate Showdown First Impressions
Virtua Fighter is available right now on JPN PSN! And I got a few matches in: Wait times aren't bad, haven't noticed any issues in-match.
Minor gripe: Ranked displays 'connection' in the vague bar format that SFV and T7 uses (instead of just giving you the ping), so I don't know how far away any of my matches have been.
Ranked has the SFV feature of offering a Bo3 match that you can opt-out of. And cool 'E-sports' feature of having random online matches play while you idle in the main menu.
Can't find any option to view replays, which would suck if missing entirely.
If I say 'I'm a shapeshifting trashpanda with superpowers,' nobody goes 'pfft, no you're not.' That choice isn't negatable. Nobody gets to revoke my identity for failing to meet an external parameter. If identity is performative, I can use performance to represent a truer self.
Furry is incredibly important to my identity, because it gives me a way to define myself that isn't impacted by the real-world prejudice I deal with. Nobody is going to strip-search me at an airport because I have 'tanuki-esque features.'
This is something that gets missed when discussing furry culture, but one of the main things that attracts people to it in my experience is the chance to set your own terms for how you want to be seen and treated for people who don't otherwise get that option.
