neocities is good, but the community is mostly filled with edgy kids and people than go on /g/. if you go on there, i recommend you don't follow anyone (yes, you can follow websites on there) and you can also disable your site profile in settings so that people can only see your website.

as for alternatives: netlify and surge.sh are pretty good free static site hosters as well
