Please direct your friends to joinmastodon.org or another instance of your choice like octodon.social, toot.cat or toot.cafe, etc. mastodon.social is "default" choice for a lot of people and it's getting kinda hammered right now.
honestly if we even had it so that you can Connect accounts between instances and easily creat an account on another instance without having to type in an email or password, that would be great
hell, we can manage all the accounts we have on one screen and easily edit profiles from one of them and whatnot

usernames work as such - the person's name, followed by their instance - for example, lighttrax@cybre.space is me! this is another advantage of several instances - if you find a username you want on an instance is taken, its possible to just jump to another instance and use it there!

Use Kurotodon. It's (subjectively) better than web Masto since you can drag different timelines around and have them be 'pinned' to Kuro. You can also toot from multiple accounts on multiple instances AT THE SAME TIME!

Content warnings can be used in many situations. Most people require you put kind-of-unpleasant things under a CW, and you honestly should, because, well... it's the right thing to do!
If you also put an image on your status that's also kind of NSFW, you can have that be unseen until clicked as well by selecting the 'NSFW' option (or by hitting the eyeball button on the webclient).
