The desire for unbounded growth of users is based in capitalism's need for unsustainable growth. I think we should reject this.
You know? This article has some valid criticisms about mastodon's development, but those criticisms feel out of date. In particular, it completely ignores the existence of alternatives to mastodon like pleroma or forks like glitch.social. Because the development has been splintered like this and everything still interoperates, a lot of the points become invalid imo
@viomi @tootbrute I don't know if I would agree that it was _maliciously_ chosen without evidence, but it definitely screams "I didn't do my basic due diligence before writing this screed."
Not sure, but cybre.space is pretty quiet in the mornings because we have only certain times that people can sign up. She maliciously chose this instance as the example because it's quieter to make it seem like Mastodon is dead.
masto meta, dailydot article
This is just clickbait for the circlejerk that keeps people clinging to their Twitter clout to death. God, what a terrible take.
And not even mentioning Pleroma or glitch.social or Pixelfed or Plume? Not even a basic understanding of this network, yet complaining about the network itself?

DailyDot's "lol mastodon is crumbling" article... Why would you open with "People aren't complaining about Trump enough for me to think Mastodon is alive"? Lord in heaven that's a stupid take.
Yes, there are legitimate criticisms to be had. Yes, some of those are discussed in the article. "They're not talking about Trump enough" is absolutely not one of them.
