It's hard to overstate how much of an impact Spectre/Meltdown had on browser architecture. The conclusion that you basically have to isolate all origins within their own processes was a sobering one.
3.1 unfucked the tile set workflow and it's not painful to create anymore. it also added animation state machines. and finally, GLES2 + WebGL 1 renderer, meaning it can run on toasters again.
