I see people putting tape over their laptop cameras and it makes me worry if us “techies” have done a good job explaining the ramifications of big data collection.

I ask why they put up tape and people say they find it creepy that they could be being watched. but “creepy” implies an unknown threat, which is misleading— we have a clear picture of all the ways this harvesting is dangerous

honestly, too many folks are worried about a human watching them change clothes through their webcam when they should be worried about an AI deciding they should pay more for insurance because they have family members who post about being sick on facebook.
