dreams, spider

had some very cool dreams, but first I wanted to mention the tiny baby spider (less than the size of a pinhead) who I found trying to spin a web on my glasses this morning. I very carefully relocated it, and wish it well in its future arachnid endeavors. :D

the dreams: I had been on a camping trip (?), but we'd come back early (?) and so were having to stay in a small college town for a week (?). (who "we" were is undetermined, other than young-ish people who knew each other)

dreams

the college town reminded me a lot of Arcata (the college town I basically grew up near, go figure), but more the size of Berkeley (the other college town I became an adult near, go figure); lots of funky shops, lots of closed and boarded-up shops, extremely diverse people doing diverse things, unexpected feral art, vaguely alarming situations, book stores, museums, and did I mention the unexpected feral art? because there sure was a LOT OF IT.

dreams

I was mad because the week we were staying in this town ended just a few days before the first Thursday of next month, when all the museums would be free. I was complaining about this with a couple of friends, but then we decided to go to the Museum of Science and Industry, which I'd never seen (in real life, either!). I thought longingly of the beautiful natural history and art museums, which were the museums of my dreams rather than anything from waking life.

dreams

then we were trying to find our way to the museum, and there was some... mysterious drama with one of the people I was hanging out with, which alarmed me at first but then he ran off and I was like "enh whatever."

then the dream changed completely, to basically the climax of an Afro-futurism SF (possibly YA?) story, in which a young woman has made her way somehow to a broadcast station to announce her apology to another young woman who she wronged badly.

dreams

in part, the person announcing had had the other person sort of arrested and held by one of the Great Houses on false pretenses. the person announcing said, and I remember this bit almost verbatim:

"My allies are... too many to mention," she thinks fondly of all the friends who helped her get to the broadcast station, "but the greatest are House X (I don't remember the names)," she thinks of her friends heading the House cheering her on, "House Y," (cont.)

dreams

... she thinks of the house she was born into, and the reactions of various people on hearing her announcement and what will probably happen which is this whole complex scene, "and Establishment Z," she thinks about a scientific research facility.

her announcement continues, with exterior views of tall, gleaming buildings, covered in writing in an alphabet I don't understand:
"I have wronged you, I have done wrong by you, and I hereby make amends. (cont.)

dreams

You may ask a boon of me, and I will do anything and everything within my power to make it happen," wincing as she thinks of how powerful house X and Y are and hoping she still has enough influence with them to be able to swing whatever extravagant boon the other person wants. "Thank you for your attention."

by making the announcement on a public channel, she's told the world 1. she messed up 2. the other person was innocent 3. she's pledged to the boon.

dreams

so now I kinda want to write the story that goes with this ending! XD but as I said, it's *definitely* an Afro-futurism SF story, and I feel extremely unqualified to write in that genre, as it were. :/ so consider the idea released into the world, for y'all do to as you wish with it.

and that concludes my dreamstuff writeup!
