@kel@witches.town I feel like I want the Mastodon crash course in why RPO is supposed to be so awful so I can be armed with that going in, but the preview was really very enh, like it did a fantastic job of hyping exactly the wrong perspective on the story to make it look like Every Other "Kid Saves Earth Via Video Games" Movie Evar.

Like he said, there are ways to do it right, but I think Ready Player One is like this /perfect/ example of how to misuse it. It's basicly this massive amount of surface level only homages to other works to cash in on their lingering cultural capital.
Literal 'quicktime event' movie chapters. Ugh.
In the end, even the book just felt soulless... But maybe Spielberg will be able to do something surprising with it.
