A brief thought: I think we need to take a long step back from "irony" culture.

There's a pattern I see repeatedly where people immersed in "irony" seem to not comprehend that other people actually believe what they're saying, because "irony" dictates that THEY don't believe anything they're saying. It's all a joke; it's just "for the lulz", to score laughs and Internet Points.

Being earnest is a completely foreign concept, and so they assume NOBODY is earnest.

@noelle I don't know how to do irony. if I seem to be interested in something, it's because I am; if I seem to care deeply about something, it's because I do. I can do *sarcasm* until the cows come home, but irony eludes me. I guess I'm a nonferrous element. :D

@trwnh @green I refer to it as "irony" because that's what they call it. You'll note that every time I use the word, it's in quotation marks.

@green @trwnh While I appreciate the desire for correct terminology, this tangent distracts from the point I was making.
