@anthracite I SHOULD do this. It's really the functional choice. There's even actually a notepad ON the fridge, but something about using physical writing implements is a hard brain-barrier to me. In the end it's a clash of my own limiting habits and frustration about technology.
The phone already is CLEARLY aware of the individual words I say, but somehow can't parse "Add tofu sponges green onions milk eggs ramen to my shopping list" is the part that really just shits me up a wall, and I'm stubbornly not writing things down because the two halves of technology exist to respond to my laziness and refuse to talk to one another.
And I'm yet another grumpy dude fighting uphill against whatever-the-hell 'cause I know I'm right and yada yada yada...

@Edelwood @anthracite tbh, personal assistant devices absolutely should be able to parse what you want it to do, and they will ~real soon now~, just... not yet. I continue to be extremely surprised that nobody seems to have hit on a successful personification scheme; just giving it a pleasant female voice and name isn't gonna do the trick, but neither is Clippy. MAKE IT A CAT. then when it fails to do what you want it's just acting like a cat would. :P
