when did we start using japanese terms like yaoi and yuri to describe gay and lesbian stuff. what's the point. we have perfectly good words here

same thing for "femme" btw. that's just. that's just woman. it means woman. "femme lesbian" is just woman lesbian. it only gives marginal info about the lesbian!!!!

@fen

if Butch lesbians got cut from this kernal i am forking out of here.

I don't see why english words should have singular meaning without connotation or denotation, or be superior to non-english words.

Manga fans have been using their cozy genra words like that since before ICQ messenger.
Who is your 'we' that you are so surprised..? (nonrhetorical, actual pointed question. maybe most important )
(friendly coffeeshop voice. i am wearing ribons and glasses and using Growl to reduce ur ATK)

@Bones_and_Feathers idk it was mostly just an observation as a non english native speaker. it's hard for me to detach the meaning of "femme" in my native language from its usage in modern slang english

Oof. I see the weight of the meaning double-down as a language learner.
Is does your first language congigate for gender a lot? Some of my languages do and don't have neutral options, sometimes stretched to fit people.

If you don't mind my asking
