@hystericempress As an indie dev who hopes to have something on itch.io someday, I really feel the need to point out that what may look like a lack of creative ambition on the consumer end is actually just the economic forces of poverty and exploitative capitalism on the dev's end. It's takes a HUGE time and resource commitment to execute an ambitious creative vision. Most us can't afford to take an idea that far. Even VNs are a bigger commitment than you might think.

@Kentaro Due to this and another comment I decided to actually clarify my position; I want to be clear that I don't think the problem here is on the developer's end, but on the failure of even platforms like Itch to offer sufficient support systems for creators. My gripe is with the fact that people CAN'T support themselves on development alone, which means a lot of stuff just gets shelved or abandoned because working on it isn't sustainable.
