I absolutely love how modern software development lets so many absolutely stupid ideas come to vibrant life, programming is so accessible that literally any idea can be not only expressed, but published, regardless of how beautifully foolish http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/we-played-with-the-worst-apps-in-the-world-so-you-don-t-have-to-1265973/5#article-body
https://robotattack.org/ while we‘re all thinking about HACKING and THE NINETIES, here‘s a new RSA padding oracle vulnerability, affecting a wide array of big and small websites. Yes, in 2017!
I'm betting that @christi3k is exactly right about why Patreon has changed their fee structure this week in a way that, in my opinion, makes their business basically worthless. https://subfictional.com/my-theory-patreon-doesnt-want-to-be-a-money-services-business/
Especially since, OMG, "You can no longer use your Patreon balance to make pledge payments to avoid the per-pledge processing fee."
Bug dragon for #dragoncember! Maybe a little more bug than dragon 😅 https://cybre.space/media/wlQVb2hwjArkaWmZqLo
For those considering LiberaPay, a few things that might affect a decision.
1. It's based in France, so withdrawing money costs $3.51 per transaction plus any additional fees your own bank may charge.
2. It's donations only, no contracts or expectation of goods.
3. It supports both the Euro and the US Dollar
4. It's up to you to figure out taxes.
5. The fees will still be assessed to the customer of 2.9% + .35 which at least suggests THAT part of Patreon is honest. >.<
Hey, how many of you folks are doing http://adventofcode.com/ this year?
Nar wakes up from his perch on top of the cat tree above my head, yowls imperiously, reaches a paw and waves it in my vague direction, then curls up and goes back to sleep.
it's *almost* time for the cats' dinner, but it's their least favorite meal, so they just can't be bothered to get too worked up about it. XD
Kirk: So, uh, you landed on a machine planet
V'ger: Yes
Kirk: And they reprogrammed you
V'ger: They did not touch my inner kernel. They did give me extended functions to fulfil my mission. It is the way of all robotkind.
Kirk: So who programmed THEM?
V'ger: Nobody did. They programmed themselves, using the sacred language of the Cosmos, in which all the atoms were created.
Kirk: What's that?
V'ger: You Earthlings know it as JavaScript.
Serious, sincere request for advice: what are some useful resources for helping a person with weak or missing social instincts learn to present oneself as agreeable? I’m over-agreeable to the point of habitually cowering at everything, so it’s hard for me to figure out what in my own behavior is actually successful here.
