re: violence and political discussion
I get that most posts that are like "I have an idea for how to improve Amazon's working conditions, [picture of guillotine]" are not serious proposals and more a use of hyperbole to express frustration. That can be good stress relief but it's not the kind of vibe I want to curate in the long term.
re: violence and political discussion
I do recognize that in extreme cases of history, violence might be justified, but it always comes with a terrible cost to pay (and public social media discussions wouldn't help the violent abolition of the French monarchy anyway)
I'm more a fan of educating people, empowering communities, re-evaluating history with a critical eye, and blocking intolerance from our social spaces.
* Still not going to tolerate hate groups, harassers, terfs, bad faith arguments, etc.
* Still support protest movements, socialism, workers unions, etc
I'm also gonna try to follow a few new rules to keep myself in check:
* Everything that somebody might not wanna hear about is inside a CW/Spoiler tag.
* I will only post links to articles or videos I've read/viewed in full.
* I'll only go for activism/politics posts that have a chance of actually helping people instead of being amusing or making me look woke.
* I am gonna stop pro-violence kinds of jokes (e.g. guillotines); the nuance of it just doesn't carry well.
You can feel free to @ me at any of these; there's not a wrong way to engage. I'm more likely to boost things back and forth than do systematic crossposts, so you won't get repeats!
Here's what I'm thinking:
* This account is my "serious" face and will be where I put discussion-style posts that take advantage of the longer character limit. Stuff from here will get boosted to the other accounts when relevant.
* @KommaXL will basically be for jokes, conversation, minor gripes, and furry moods.
* KommaChameleon on twitter is gonna become more focused on following/boosting artists, plus LIGHT and casual broadcasts.
* KommaUpdates on twitter is my self-promotion vehicle.
Now that snouts and awoo are connected, should I use this account or @KommaXL ?
I guess I'm gonna post mostly from @KommaXL since a lot of friends are on snouts and awoo hasn't federated them yet. Hop on over. :>

Dad's having back trouble and I need to stay close to help him out. Depending on how he's doing after a few minutes I will either start the stream then or (as alternative programming) link y'all to a spectator view of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
@Galuade I think I might start filling mine out; my old page is here! https://backloggery.com/games.php?user=Meeba
@Galuade Hmm, I've been thinking about getting on there! I just keep my backlog on a Trello board right now...
But the real reason is that they make no measurable amount of money off this form of back compat, whereas they can make a bit of money off Virtual Console style repacks of the best sellers, where licensing allows. And that's how the capitalism cookie crumbles but a) I wish they'd just say that, and b) it's a shitty but sadly very normalized stance for a company that has managed to sequester a very significant slice of the history of an artistic medium on their now-abandoned proprietary platform.
The dismissal of platform-level back compat (ie put a PS2 disc into your PS3/PS4 and it Just Works) always leaned hard on murky platform holder anecdata like "people request this more often than they actually use and value it". And it's like, well you never really offered it for reals so you have no idea what the real demand was.
Sony stopped making new PlayStation 2s in 2012, and in a few days the last vestige of support will end: https://www.usgamer.net/articles/ps2-is-finally-dead-18-years-after-release
Given that it's the best selling console of all time and its catalog is extremely significant, it deserves a better preservation effort than it's gotten. I wish PCSX2 were as far along and robust as Dolphin. I wish Sony had bothered with a 100% software back-compat solution for PS3/PS4, and that people in the industry hadn't been so dismissive of that.
