@Trilliant Can think of it like an email service. If you change providers, you'll have to export/import your address book and tell everybody your new email address. You can find the import/export in settings somewhere.
It's that way as a feature, not a bug, to ensure there is not and never will be a central location that can control the Fediverse. No central authority to corrupt or sell out, and can be routed around in the case of failure.
