I just started the "foods" section, next is "animals". It's going to seem mighty weird if canonically all bears are boys and all bunnies are girls. I can't wait. (No spoilers plz!)
And then sometimes Duolingo is cool in that it just presents you with new words and just sees of you can guess based on context. That's neat. Sometimes it's easier to guess new words than others...
Turns out the reason is... genders. Baguette is feminine, sandwich is masculine, fuck, une is fucking feminine, so sandwich doesn't match because fuck.
Fuck genders.
(Not bagging on the language itself (mainly), just how genders can be frustrating in a whooooole neeeww waaayyy)
Trying to pick up some French with Duolingo, and it's... very sink or swim. Different from the regimented way I was taught Spanish in high school. I guess it's trying to teach it conversationally, like you'd learn your first language? I mean, yeah, you don't sit with a baby and conjugate "to be", but it's confusing sometimes. Like I didn't see why there was only one valid answer here. Why can't I eat a sandwich?
If nothing else, I might try to take this high of accomplishment to try to learn Python. I figure that can't hurt anything.
Hey tech-heads!
I'm just competent enough to be dangerous with internet things. I can Linux enough to nano and apt-get, and was able to follow https://wogan.blog/2017/04/09/getting-started-with-mastodon/ flawlessly. (Well, after ditching the html5 console for PuTTY.) But I have no idea what I *actually* did.
Can you recommend some learning entrypoints so I can learn cool stuff like this, maybe even (*gasp*) contribute?
From offsite friend:
"I think my new favorite part of Drop Dead Studios' new Spheres of Might playtest for Pathfinder is that there's a class that, through gaining multiple optional abilities, can fire a razor-sharp disc of healing energy that heals the target for Xd6 on a hit, heals double on a confirmed 18 or 19, and beheads the target on a 20."
"Just hold *very* still..."
Long ago I used to have a slight infatuation with the King Of All Cosmos from the Katamari games. And loads of free time with nothing but a locked-down PC that happened to have mspaint on it. https://awoo.space/media/UTPfCRqQPGhI4aF9xyc
lewd, personal
Woke up super early, fiddled about, then decided to nap to finish out remainder of usual sleep.
While drifting off, got in the mood for a fap, so had some fun times... only groggily later did I realize I was only *dreaming* I was fapping, so I proceeded to rectify that.
I didn't last long, as I hadn't gone for a while, and the semi-lucid state made it pretty intense. Fell back asleep in my own mess.
angry rant, United
Okay, yeah, United is officially on my shit list. Sure, they beat someone unconscious and lied about it, possibly tinged with some racism because what isn't these days. That's just a human.
Now I see they've *killed* a rabbit. Healthy 10-month-old bunny boards United flight, arrives dead. No explanation given.

While browsing one of my daily RPG-related news sites, EN World http://www.enworld.org/forum/forumindex.php I spotted a link to Rabbits & Rangers https://www.rpgnow.com/product/191133/Rabbits--Rangers?affiliate_id=64760 for an OSR D&D clone. 50 'funny animal' races, and rule tweaks for running a more cartoony game.
Cool, but I'm not really an OSR person. If you are, though, feel free to check it out. https://awoo.space/media/5hW8zvvgdphI6IdEZH8
