Bojack

Also I really like that they successfully pulled off the bit where they point at their own show and their own character and say "YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO LIKE HIM" directly to their own audience

But like, it's also absolutely a valid criticism for the whole scene of irony poisoned and cynically detached asshole protagonists we're getting so, so many of these days

Oh my god, the whole part where they make Philbert an unlikable, but vulnerable asshole and everyone likes him despite the point being that they made him intentionally unlikable.

And people like him and cheer for him anyway.

And they very specifically, in no uncertain terms, call out that specific thing.

I bet it's still going to go over so many people's heads.

bojack (non-plot)

So far in just the first little bit, I love the preying mantis sprinkling salt on her date and woodpecker Jenga.

The armadillo (pangolin?) Janitor gets special mention too.

@masklayer do you ever think about how birds are t-posing when they fly

Ah yes, the four alchemical elements:

⛰️ Ground

🕓 Clock
📄 Data

I may have to change instances on this thing. The idea behind instance whitelisting was very good, but I don't think they can keep up with the sheer number of them, and I've already got some people I know that I can't follow here because of it.

It's not a BAD idea, but I'm not going to fragment my friend list.

anyone have any good explanation for why it seems like half the people I try to add here just return a 404 error?

I don't feel like digging into how this whole thing handles federation, blah blah blah, I already hate computers enough.

I never really put a real profile on this thing because I honestly wasn't expecting to use it much, but I guess I should do that sometime.

The freeform table thing is neat, though. Good place to stick pronouns, so I did that.

this is 2018's "recording is killing the music industry, we left this side of the tape blank so you can help" and I'm hella here for it

I definitely wish this thing had a CW whitelist. Because there are a fair number of really common CWs that don't bother me, but make me stop scrolling and poke at a tiny button on a touch interface, and that's... inconvenient.

I still like CWs - they're a great feature. There's just a few I wish I could say "always show me this" to, for me, personally.

Why is masto showing me replies from people I follow, to people I don't follow on my main TL?

New Mastodon gripe: the volume control on video is an on/off toggle, not a slider.

Literally nobody on the internet can even remotely agree on what volume anything should be and I'm tired of having my speakers explode.

@Flora@meemu.org still not over this, it's the best feature of this place.

Plz Boop me.

I'm gonna need to look into a client for this eventually, but the web client is holding up surprisingly well even though I use an oddball browser (mobile Firefox) on an old phone.

i saw a toot about it elsewhere but i can’t find it so: basically don’t trust mastodon for things you want to stay Actually Private. instance admins can read DMs, and instance admins can read the private posts of anyone their users follow. this is sort of inherent to the current architecture. and for all twitter’s sins, i trust the admins to not leak random people’s DMs more than i trust every instance admin ever.

@ArrBianca if there's one thing I really, really, unequivocally like about mastodon, it's this

AAHHH, I almost never check here, but I peeked in and two friends who I didn't even know talked to each other are being supportive about trans stuff and folks, that's good!

*aggressively mashes friends together a lot*
