I mean, we're locked to this vendor, so we have no choice.

But this is gonna cost us in terms of other equipment we won't be able to deploy, and student jobs we won't be able to offer over the summer term.

Show thread

We lost a piece of specialty equipment, and as a condition for replacement, the vendor is requiring us to basically buy up their entire back stock (to the tune of $32k USD or so) if we want any of them.

They won't repair unless we purchase either.

Capitalism: efficient!

I mean, we at least have protections signed into law for now, and it's definitely still a better option than the US in the short term.

But like, seeing how almost every single Liberal voter in ON flipped conservative when the Liberals folded is... not inspiring.

Show thread

They didn't really do that, and I'm not sure if they can pull that off again. I don't have any faith in a conservative federal government not to be absolute shitholes, having seen what the provincials are already doing in Ontario.

Show thread

Sometimes I wonder about trying to get people to come to Canada though.

Like, last fed election, the Liberals (centrists) beat the Conservatives (conservatives) by basically promising the leftier voters that they'd do a few things they liked if they consolidated against cons

On principle, I'm going to like literally every tweet I see about the like button.

Literally nobody except warmed over "gamer thing" leftovers, right wing apologists, and literal Nazis wants to try to """debate""" anything in 280 chars on this hell site, twitter, let me keep giving people a little heart shaped boost when they do a thing I enjoy for fucks sake

Okay, I saw the "timeline goes sideways" tweet getting passed around again, what asinine thing did they change this time?

For dinner tonight, I made cheapass hot dogs, but I did find out that you can make pretty decent cheapass hot dogs in a toaster oven. I don't have a balcony or grill, so this is about as close as I can get.

I envy my cat a lot.
All he has to worry about is finding warm spots to have a nap and reminding me to feed him twice a day.

This isn't an exhaustive list, naturally.
But like, I dunno, I sort of hoped we had more moderating forces against the global shift to the right and just... everything

But then I think about this, the 2019 fed election, and how 2018 turned out in Ontario...

Show thread

Like, don't get me wrong. I'm aware of our flaws. We're absolute shit to our First Nations, it's only recently (and with a lot of opposition) that we made progress on gender stuff, basically... everything about Harper, participation in shitty joint military operations, pipelines

You know, seeing the CBC (typically derided by our right as a liberal rag) go in hard on "fascism in Brazil is good for business" is one of those moments that makes you realise that yeah, we might not be as quick as some other countries, but we're following the same path.

The CBC ombudsman thing is actually a really good idea that I'll be taking a look at tomorrow. I've had success with that approach before at work getting some shitty ads taken down.

Wait, did Brazil fuck up the thing when I wasn't looking? Goddammit

Someone pick a bird for me
(nah, don't really, I'd probably still just do indecisiveness at it anyway)

Of course the TAS desynced because of a cabling issue
And then they mixed up USB Mini/micro

Yes hello this is computers.

Can't wait to see some of the GDQx videos, because I'm so exhausted, I slept through a lot of the good stuff
