For real though, the Amazon doorbell cop camera is bad, but maybe the worst part is they made it sound like it would interface with the police through that Rekognition network thing they're pushing to police depts.

I have no idea how I fit in anywhere.
I kind of suspect that maybe I don't fit in anywhere.

Sometimes it feels like easily more than half of the things I fix just end up being taking an existing program or script and threading it so we're not wasting like 7/8 of our cpu time.

I'm actually not exaggerating, my idiot brain ran in circles for half an hour trying to claw its way to the realisation that you don't need state tracking or configurations for cat food.

I mean, I KNEW that, I just couldn't get that train of thought to switch tracks.

Just to give you an idea of how computers have broken me:

* cat sees me wake up from nap, meows for food
Me: yes, I have to feed you
Brain: but we have to edit the cat bowl configuration first and how are we going to track state so we know which food he's already been fed?

My cat is warm and purring and snuggly
But also smells bad

A conundrum

Some days I wonder if it's actually possible to build a world where humans aren't awful and get sad because I'm not sure it is.

I needed to point a camera at the sky and all I had was old computer parts

Now this just has me wondering what a bird/goat sort of gryphon thing would look like

Setting aside that the DHS is terrible for a moment, that article reads so weird. It's like it was written by someone pretty solid at first. Then someone who really likes comma splices and weird structure felt it needed more justification.

And finally WALL GUY took over.

Like, if it IS cutting people off, that's gonna be a setting on their end and out of my control, and also you might have just asked me to bypass another admin's access restrictions. And also now I have to think of a nice way to say "this is complete horseshit he just made up"

I'm so glad my boss is just making up complete bullshit explanations that are not even a little bit true ("ftp transfers have a 15GB limit") and then telling other people that I'll work around it or something.

I like that different buildings on campus are apparently at slightly different pressure so there's like, passive prevailing winds in the tunnel system.

It's just kind of an interesting quirk.

Ever think how weird buying eggs is?

Like, "vendor! I'll take a dozen of your finest cloaca-fresh chicken orbs!"

I'm not sure what my favourite thing about cats is, but the thing where you scratch them just right and their back leg starts automatically kicking is pretty high on the list.

I made the mistake of looking at a list of current TLDs on wiki and I guess it's just a giant mess of novelty domains mostly operated by the same company acting under like a hundred different shell company names?

This seems... not ideal?

Sometimes I think back to debugging some really awful, awful code that was producing mystery NaN's, and what I ended up doing was just turning off floating point exception handling and seeing where it crashed.

Not sure if that feels clever or bad.

Like, I can't really think of anything. I don't need more *things*. And not accepting "I really can't think of anything" while they keep asking over and over just makes this hell holiday even more stressful.

One thing I really really don't like about being within Family Distance™ for xmas is the whole "make a list of stuff you want" deal.
