I like making fun of the James Cameron Avatar movies because to me they are nothing burgers. No impact or noteable events. There is also a zeitgeist around my particular social circles for mocking them which afford communal bonding. However, I also understand that there is a wider group outside of my social circles who likely engage in a different way and find them impactful. The sequel clearly made money after all so theres an audience. Just not in my set.

So to me it is sort of a "I dont know anyone who voted for [Nixon]" situation.

It wont stop me from mocking the movies but I do understand that is my slice of reality

However, much like the His Dark Mateirals books [which Inhated] and Terry Pratchet [whose books Innever liked, but seems like he was a decent person] its a question of when it is appropriate to express dislike, boredom, or antipathy. No reason to harsh someone's joy after all
