@pendragon if you know, you KNOW
(If I had a dollar for every Californian who moved to TX and learned this the hard way after I told them to be aware of this MO.)
((I mean I’d only have $5 but STILL.))
@artfulreggie @pendragon I am still surprised this is a thing that needs to be said. I assumed there had to be like a dozen really smarmy think pieces about it and yet....
@ZiaMacPine @pendragon "Sure, sure. BUT, if -I- can just get myself on a comfy perch, -I- will be protected."
"Moving to Texas" can be a reliable litmus test for this weirdly libertarian exceptionalism.
But like, who wants to live in a place with strained social services? No one can maintain gas generators and Tesla batteries in their golden years during what are now annual freezes.
@artfulreggie It really does feel that way at times. Like a litmus test of how aware a person is about things.
and dont even get me started on the freezes and how THAT is framed.
@artfulreggie Yeah I see your point. Aware in the sense that they know something nebulously "bad" happens to other people and not being aware it will impact them because they're not exceptional.
I don't know if it is so much the zero-sum aspect so much as believing they are obviously the "winners"
