Harry Potter vent

I've been feeling so alone lately when it comes to being a trans ally. There's a surprising amount of LGBT... well LGB people in my life who are just weirdly okay with throwing money at Harry Potter still. While I can't find any concrete evidence of where specifically Rowling's current donations go, fact is she has been using her power/influence to directly affect anti-trans policies. Not just in the UK but here in the US too.

Like... I need people to understand that backing anti-trans causes inadvertently boosts anti LGBT causes too. I need the L's, G's and B's here to understand that it's a bad look when you're unable to move on from a franchise that's become hostile to us as a whole. Separating the art from the artist doesn't really work when said artist is tied to the work and using the power they get from that work to hurt our right to exist.

Plus the whole "Dumblydore was gay" bit was just her using us to give herself good publicity.

@Talcott I think you are right and you have a good point. It is a shame seeing people make these choices. It does feel like people want to excuse their own responsibilities.

I believe in seperating the art from the artist in an academic explore a piece sense. That doesn't mean a person is excused from their responsibilities as a person

re: Harry Potter vent

@Talcott That all said while I lack a firm list I think Gamespot did a reasonable break down on the entire situation including a lot of reference links. You could dig through that for references gamespot.com/articles/jk-rowli

However, sadly for those who don't want to hear they will dismiss the article as biased or state GameSpot is not a "trustworthy news service" so this is more useful as a point to find reference links imo
