Ukraine War- Bakhmut
Honestly considering how people in my news feeds were so certain this location would "fall" (a nebulous definition which I suppose means Russia capturing the area and prisoners) and it hasn't I think this is a good reminder about the flaws in how we take in data and information.
It is human nature to draw conclusions and see patterns but we as a species (and I include myself) have bad habit of not questioning out data streams
re: Ukraine War- Bakhmut
Taking Bakhmut as an example:
1) the "gains" were measured in meters not KM
2) the evidence that thousands of ukrainian soldiers would be captures was not based on any firm data
3) even if the location was gained the context was this was a small town of 70,000 pre war and there is ample evidence the larger cities it leads too have spent months being fortified
To me the context is that war is always a tragedy this is no excpetion and people have a bad habit of arm chair strategizing with poor data
So to me this was a situation of huge expenditures of life and material to gain very little... and they haven't even done that.
