I finally learned how to install an app on #linux via compiling (configure, make install).
Then, thank gods above and below, I learned how to uninstall the same app (make uninstall).
Lazy toot: I'm considering the use of a Java-based app on my #linux machine. Is the antipathy toward Java mainly about it not being FOSS? Or is there more to it? Any search-terms I can Google or links I can chase to help me make a more informed decision?
I gather already that the maker strongly recommends Oracle Java for this than OpenJDK.
(This is a bibliographic ref mngr, so I'd really be investing time & energy for the long haul.)
