LGBT, poll, boosts appreciated

Assuming (correctly) that "bisexual" still refers to all genders and we're not being transphobic or NB-phobic here, do you personally think there's a substantial difference between the labels "bi" and "pan"?

I know asking this is like dropping a live grenade, but I legitimately am curious how people perceive this.

@oddtail I agree with a lot of the definitions others have shared which point to both being quite similar but still having some different nuances. I won't repeat what's already been said quite well.

Also worth considering, I know some folks who identify as pan more frequently state that they're bi (e.g., in mixed company), just because they find that term to be more broadly understood. There is enough overlap for such a switch to be useful, but they are still distinct enough to such folks that they feel the need to specify when they get the chance to speak in more depth about it.

Personally, I'm still trying to figure out where I fall between the two terms so it's something I've been thinking a lot about.
