i don't know why we're going through this again, but it's really quite simple.

the 'g' in gif is pronounced like the 'zh' in 'zhuzh'

the 'i' is the long e in 'bee'

the 'f' is a classical latin ph- sort of a short 'puh'

gif: 'zheepuh', like a fancy ovine.
